A Great Place to Stay
Apr 12, 2010
My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights and we both thought it was a great place. It is centrally located in the Keys, so if you want to go to Key West or Key Largo the drive is not that bad. The room we stayed in was perfect - it had a bed, TV, refrigerator, microwave, and a clean bathroom. We had unit 18A, and although the walls were a little thin, it did not bother us. My boyfriend also liked the DirecTV: he was able to watch his favorite baseball team on opening day. The owners were very nice and although we did not see them much, they did make the place feel homey. This place is a great value for people looking for a place centrally located in the Keys.
A little piece of home on the Keys.....

I was prompted to write my review not only becasue of how nice our stay was, but because of the slanderous review I saw on here. I logged on to forward a buddy of mine the info on this place and saw the Trip Advisor link on Google.
The Sombrero Reef Inn is a comfortable, quiet, and friendly place to stay in my opinion. My wife and I have stayed in pretty high end resorts all over, and I can appreciate a family owned place like this. The owners are friendly and attentive and keep the rooms very clean. They are typical of rooms in the Keys in my opinion but we could tell there is a personal touch. We liked the suggestions of places to use and eat while we stayed there and the weather was very nice. All the other rooms were full while we were there and we did not notice any disturbances from other guests. We came and went as we needed and had a wonderful time.
If you like affordable, comfortable, and friendly accommodations then I recommend the Sombrero Reef Inn. My wife and I will certainly return. My next time I MUST get in some fishing!!
Private,
peaceful and perfect...at least for us!

The Sombrero Reef Inn will appeal to those who value
small and private over the busyness of a resort or ordinary
hotel. If you need room service or a lot of ammenities
like an on-site restaurant or a swimming pool...look
somewhere else. There are only 4 units here - two suites
and two motel type rooms. We booked one of the suites
for a week and it was lovely and comfortable and felt
like having a cottage to ourselves.
Number
18 - Tarpon - is a roomy and bright livingroom/kitchen/diningroom
with a separate bedroom and bathroom. Sliding glass
doors with screen look out to the canal. It's very well
appointed with all the comforts of home - even a nice
HD TV and very good wireless Internet. Towels and bedding
are quite good.
We
were out and about most days so we didn't see much of
Carolyn or Matt, the owners...but did get recommendations
for boat rentals and places to eat - including their
restaurant - Sparkey's Landing - not far away, where
we had THE BEST key lime pie in Marathon...and we tried
quite a few.
Highly
recommended for independent travelers who don't need
to be coddled...just want a quiet and comfortable place
to set up for a few days or longer. You won't be disappointed.
Oh...and
I even fished off the dock and caught a small Tarpon
our last night there! Quite a thrill...the canal seems
to be full of fish...you can see them jumping.
Comfortable,
clean and well appointed

Our title is our review. It was very comfortable, very
clean and had everything you could possibly need. We
would have loved to book it for a month next year. We
did this last minute and it was the best thing we could
have done!!!
A
Lovely Place To Stay
Sep 9, 2008
My husband and I stayed at the Sombrero Reef Inn
and Fishing Lodge on August 29 and 30, 2008. It is just
so nice and immaculately clean. The bed was super comfortable
with very nice pillows and bedding. We stayed in the
suite and just could not have been happier with everything.
We look forward to returning. What a beautiful relaxing
place to stay!
The
Best Thing To Happen To Marathon!
Aug 29, 2008
What
a wonderful place! The room were the cleanest I have
experienced in the keys - EVER! The sheets were as soft
as ones you would sleep on in a 5 star hotel of New
York. The grounds were well kept and inviting. The owners
are very kind and helpful. Possibly the nicest couple
in the Keys. Gave great recommendation for charters,
dining and interesting things to enjoy and experience
during our vacation. We highly recommend Sparky's Landing
-- also owned by the same couple. One of the best dining
places in town. This is a great place for romantic getaway,
a fishing vacation or a Keys vacation-- you could go
either way. We will return to Sombrero Reef Inn.
Quiet
& Peaceful

My and husband and I enjoyed our stay at Sombero Reef
Inn and Fishing Lodge. Our room was very clean and comfortable.
The grounds were well groomed and inviting. We were
able to bring our boat and there was a ramp on the grounds.
We would stay again.

Once
again, we had a great time! We really enjoy the quiet
tranquility of your small inn - it is so relaxing! The
best reef either of us has snorkeled in the whole Keys
is definitely Sombrero Reef. The reef is so close &
the fish are friendly. Patty, the dog, loves to visit
here too. She says thank you for your hospitality...
woof woof, bark bark. See you again...
